As the Kallang Basin Swimming Complex and St Wilfred Sports Centre prepare to close in the latter half of 2025, the government is considering redevelopment plans for the aging sites. With the Kallang Basin complex scheduled to shut its doors on September 1, followed by St Wilfred on October 1, the timing appears opportune for revitalization efforts in the area.

As part of these plans, officials are exploring the possibility of introducing public housing at both locations, given the current state of the facilities and the need for updated infrastructure.

The proposed redevelopment is expected to feature Build-to-Order (BTO) projects, which are likely to be designated as Plus flats. This designation would entail stricter resale restrictions and extend the minimum occupation periods for future residents. In terms of housing options, the planned BTO developments may offer a diverse range of units, including two- to four-room flats. One of the most notable aspects of the proposed construction is the potential for high-rise buildings, which could reach heights of up to 36 storeys.
